How to create storytelling content

Stories breed connection, especially when there is a commonality. A feeling is evoked when you hear of someone's story, beliefs, or understanding.

This leads to you wanting to hear what someone has to say, to learn about their story, and see the face behind their brand.

Something sparks inside of us when we have similarities- this is why storytelling is pivotal in content as it allows for connection with your audience.

First, let’s look at how to create content that reflects your brand whilst connecting with your ideal audience.

Establish your brand’s character (voice, persona, likes, dislikes, usp, approach)

  • Not just your brand’s voice but go deeper

  • What do you want to sound like, a tone of voice?

  • How do you want others to feel when they see and read your content, a persona?

  • What similarities do you want to connect with your audience on, your likes and dislikes?

  • How do you seek to push content and on what platforms, is your approach?

  • The most important element to not forget is, what is your unique selling point, what makes you, you?

  • Know who you want to target (what do they want, why, and how can you deliver on their wants and needs)

    • What does your audience want or what do they need?

    • Why is this a current need?

    • How can you solve the problem or meet that need?

    • How can you deliver on that solution?

Secondly, be authentic. Show the story behind your brand and business to connect with those who are seeking what you have to offer.

Showcase your expertise

  • Share insight, highlight top tips or simply show your work in action

  • Provide insights and tips

    • Go deeper into sharing your knowledge and skills

  • Give something for free

    • Provide a document or resource that others can use as a starting point to want to go further with learning from you and with you

  • Create a community

    • Every person that follows you clicked that follow button for a reason, embrace them and welcome them into your space

  • Invest in your audience

    • Spend time engaging with and connecting with your audience to build loyalty, trust and make amazing connections

Also… try not to make it too overwhelming. For example, you have a blog post idea and from that blog post create 2 carousel for Instagram and create a variety of Pinterest posts all linking back to the same idea.

  • You create consistency

  • You narrow your workload

  • You get to show up on multiple platforms all from sharing one piece of insight
